We've said it before, and we'll say it again: Millennials are quickly gaining on other generations as the leader in the home buying market, according to the National Association of Realtors. With millennials rising as a top influencer in this market, it's important to understand what they want in a home. According to Furniture Today and Apartment Therapy's 2015 Decorating Survey millennials have the following items on their list of must-have home features:
1. Hardwood Floors
Durable and easy to clean makes this a hot feature for any millennial's home. The fact that hardwood floors create great acoustics is just an added bonus for hosting parties and gatherings for this young generation.
2. Natural Light
Being one with nature is an image Millennials like to portray. Because of this, anything sustainable and natural calls to them, so it's no wonder large windows that add an abundance of natural light and open views are important to Millennials when looking for a place to live.
3. Outdoor Space
Whether it's a connecting patio to their apartment or a park within walking distance, Millennials want, and need, an easily accessible place to be outdoors.
4. Open Floor Plan and Larger Rooms
Millennials love being connected. They are always plugged in on smart phones or other devices, so it makes sense that they want rooms without dividing walls, so that everyone can enjoy each other's company, whether they are in the kitchen, the living room or the entryway.
